The Family History of John + Jen + Riley + Nicholas
John and I actually met twice due to fate. I remember meeting him at Rockford College during one the cheer camps that I had staffed for the National Cheerleaders Association in the summer of 1991. I specifically asked to work with his group of girls from Schaumburg High School because I thought that he was cute. Plus, it was those stunning blue eyes!!
Again, fate put us together in the summer of 1992. I was in charge of the cheer camp that John's school was hosting. The day before camp begins, the instructors meet with the school's coordinator to discuss logistics. I saw those eyes and knew him from the previous camp. As it turns out, he never even noticed me. I reminded him to look back on the videotapes of camp for the girl who fell on a round-off flip-flop back during the opening presentation. Sure enough, there I was.
It took a whole four days for John to ask me on a date. And, it actually took one of his cheerleader girls to initiate the date. Chris Castellani, bless her, asked what I thought about "Coach D." My response was, "I think that he is the neatest thing since sliced bread, but that he is a big boy. He is going to have to ask me out all on his own." Later that day, our "unofficial date" was to Subway. For our first "official date," I was waiting for his phone call in the hotel room. When he finally did call, I heard female voices in the back ground and was sure that he was dating/married. The female voices turned out to be relatives, and the date was made for Benihana.
There were a few turbulent moments in the beginning of the relationship because I was ending a previous relationship. But, I knew John was something special. We were planning to attend a wedding at the end of September, and I was torn about whether or not to go. My father sealed the deal by stating, "I am not going to let the best thing that walked into your life walk out. If I have to, I will drive you to that wedding myself."
A month later, while John was dropping me off after an evening out, I told him that I was "going to marry him some day. You (John) didn't have much of a say in the matter." A year and a half later, he proposed on a bench behind Cinderella's castle at Walt Disney World in Florida. On November 4, 1995, in front of family and friends, we were married at Sts. Peter and Paul in Naperville, Illinois. We honeymooned in Hawaii, returned home to our new townhouse, and settled into a normal life. John taught at Oliver Wendell Holmes Elementary in Oak Park teaching physical education. I taught at Abbott Middle School in the science department for seventh grade. In 1997, John moved to Bartlett High School. He has taught freshman through seniors and coached girls/boys volleyball and boys swimming.
In 1998, Riley Charles Domschke was born at St. Alexius in Hoffman Estates. He loves Star Wars, Buzz Light-year, airplanes, trains, and semi-trucks. Most of all, he loves Disney. Riley is an extremely independent and self motivated thinker. He is not shy and loves to be involved. Someday he wants to marry his momma. (Only if Vincient, his best girl-friend, will let him.)
In 2003, Nicholas Kenneth Domschke was also born at St. Alexius. He is naturally curious and into mischief. He loves my pots and pans, things that roll, and crawling/chasing after his older brother.
In the new year, the Domscke family is grateful for life, family and friends. Thank you all for your support, thoughts, prayers, and kindness. We love you!!
